Around Shimla – Himachal Pradesh

There is nothing to see or do, and no places to stay in Kalka. Most people come only to catch a train to somewhere else. There are some good views on the road from Kalka to Shimla.

There are pleasant walks here. The walk to Churdhar Mountain (3650m) is good.

There are some nice places to walk here and a wildlife sanctuary, 3km away, with a good range of birds.

Kasauli, 12km southeast of Kalka and 75km southwest of Shimla, has some pleasant walks in the area.

It is a nice walk to the town of Sanawar, or to Monkey Point (4km), which is on the India Air Force base. You have to get permission to go there at the gate. It is a nice 12km walk to Kalka. Few foreigners visit here.

There are regular buses to Shimla (3 hr). You can take a train to Dharampur railway station and then get a bus from there to Kasauli (12km).
